Ballycarry Community Association

Popular Scottish group North Sea Gas will make a welcome return to Larne next month, when they appear at the McNeill Theatre.

The group, which regularly tours North America and Europe, will be back in Northern Ireland by invitation of the Ballycarry Community Association and Broadisland Gathering Festival committee.

North Sea Gas have several albums to their credit and have appeared in concert in the United States and Germany as well as on Chinese television.

Funds raised from the concert, being held on Friday, February 17, will being going to the Assocation to assist with its projects and the event gets underway at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 and go on sale this week at the Larne Leisure Centre and at Beattie's Shop in Ballycarry, Schomberg House in Belfast and Carrickfergus Museum.

The three man group went down well last year when the theatre was packed for the event, and the organisers are hoping for the same this time around.

The North Sea Gas concert will officially launch this year's Broadisland Gathering, the 20th in the village. During the evening details of this year's events will also be announced.

Mon, 25 Jul 2011 06:43:18 -0700 Grants for groups and halls: Energy Efficient Venues - Reminder http://kilsally.posterous.com/grants-for-groups-and-halls-energy-efficient http://kilsally.posterous.com/grants-for-groups-and-halls-energy-efficient

Dear Member Group,

Just a reminder about the Big Lottery  Energy Efficient Venues programme, which we fell feel may be of interest to a lot of our groups who may own or lease halls to carry out their activities.

NB. A number of USCN member groups have already been successful – however please note that if you plan to follow up a small application (<£10k) with a second larger application (<£50K) the deadline for the first application is the end of August 2011.

The Energy Efficient Venues programme will pay for community organisations to carry out works to their venue to make them more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. As well as benefiting the environment the programme will help groups save on their heating and lighting costs.

This programme can fund 100% of the costs incurred and can include items like:-

1.       Installation of double glazing

2.       Upgrading insulation (Roof, floor and wall)

3.       Installing more energy efficient boilers and heating systems

4.       Installing more energy efficient hot water systems

5.       Installing more energy efficient kitchen appliances

6.       Installation of energy efficient lighting systems

7.       Installation of control systems to maximise efficiency of systems

The above are only some of the items which can be funded and applications can also include professional fees such as architects, energy consultants, engineers, building control and planning fees and remedial works associated with the installations.

There are two grant sizes (£2,000.00-£10,000.00 and £15,000.00-£50,000.00)

Groups can apply for one grant or up to two grants in the following combinations

·         A grant of between £2,000.00 and £10,000.00 followed by another grant of the same size

·         A grant of between £2,000.00 and £10,000.00 followed by a grant of between £15,000.00 and £50,000.00

Full details are available on the Big Lottery Fund website.

The total fund available is approximately £5million and we would encourage any Ulster-Scots groups who are interested to apply as soon as possible.

If your group require any advice or assistance sourcing quotations for energy audits and contractors or completing applications etc. please do not hesitate to contact The Ulster Scots Community Network, where our staff will be pleased to help point you in the right direction.

Hello All

New Prices for Mullan Flutes.  Still keeping them priced low as
possble but the rise in the cost of african blackwood has been a small
increase in the prices; the 1 & 2 Keys flutes are going up by £5 and
the 5 Key flute is up £8.00 to £138.00.  See attached flyer.

The Piccolo will be finished in a few weeks and is going out on trial
next week to Scotland.

We have decided to replace our existing F flute with a improved model.
Already the prototype has been tested alongside the Hawkes & Sons
Crown AZ F flute, so pleased with the results we are now going to
invest into the production of the flute.  Will keep you all informed.

Fri, 06 May 2011 05:48:19 -0700 Arts Council NI - Musical Instruments for Bands Grant now open!!!! http://kilsally.posterous.com/arts-council-ni-musical-instruments-for-bands http://kilsally.posterous.com/arts-council-ni-musical-instruments-for-bands Dear All ,

The Arts Council’s Musical Instruments for Bands Grant is opening on Monday!!

The programme opens 9 May 2011 and deadline for applications is 4pm on
2 June 2011.

This is a very tight turnaround time and the application has to be
accompanied by a number of policies, quotes and attachments.

The Ulster Scots Community Network in conjunction with the
Confederation of Ulster Bands & RSPBA (NI) are hosting  2 informal
information sessions on Wednesday 11th May 2011.  We appreciate that
this is short notice but feel that it is important to get bands
started on applications etc as soon as possible due to the short
application window.

These will take place simultaneously in the Royal Hotel, Cookstown and
the Island Centre, Lisburn - both commencing at 8pm.

The format of these will incorporate an overview of the scheme,
guidance on filling out the form, help with the attachments required
as well as providing handouts for further reference. It is anticipated
to last for approximately 1 hour, with tea/coffee also being provided.

Although these information sessions are not organised by the funders
(ACNI) this is an invaluable opportunity for your band to obtain
guidance and hopefully result in a successful application.

Some details are as yet unconfirmed however it is anticipated that the
maximum application per band will be £5k - as yet the total budget is
unconfirmed. It is expected that bands who have previously been
awarded this funding from 2004-2011 will be excluded.

In order to register a place/s at one of these events, please email
your name/s, band and contact details to info@ulster-scots.com before
1pm on Wednesday 11th May.

As up-take is expected to be high, you are advised to register as soon
as possible. Spaces are restricted to 1 or 2 attendees per band

As mentioned previously, it is important to remember that the window
of opportunity is very short (only 3 weeks after the date of these
meetings) In preparation for applying and in advance of these
sessions, bands can start to prepare by ensuring the following items
are in place -

·        Constitution,

·        Band bank account (at least two unrelated authorized signatories)

·        Details of competition results in last two years (if relevant)

·        List of activities for previous two years and a projection of
activity for incoming year (parades, competitions, concerts etc)

·        A recent recording of the band -

·        Two quotes for the instruments required - confirming a
delivery date prior to Feb 2012

·        Safeguarding/Child Protection policies

·        Equality/Equal opportunities policy

·        Most recent annual statement of accounts (for the period as
stipulated in your Constitution) - audited and signed by an
independent person

·        Copy of the minute of the meeting at which the annual
accounts were agreed by the committee

·        Projected accounts for current year

(Assistance and guidance can be provided on the night if you do not
have some of the above documents)

These information sessions proved very successful in 2010 with approx
70% of the successful applicants having attended one of the sessions.

Best Regards,

Iain

Dear Alan,

I was given your details by Hugh Brownlow.  I am a violinist planning
a concert in St Swithin's, Magherafelt on Easter Saturday, 23rd April
2011.  The concert is in aid of the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, and
will be an evening of violin music and song.  The concert will be
followed by refreshments.  Hugh thought you might be able to help me
to publicise it.  I have attached a poster, I'd appreciate it if you
could print a few and distribute them where you think there could be
some interest.  I'm going to send you a newsletter version in another
email; please forward this as much as you can.  Thanks very much.  I'd
love to see you at the concert on Easter Saturday!

Best wishes,

Rhoda Barfoot
